Who’s Behind Utility Explained
Utility Explained is researched, written, and reviewed by a small editorial team that specializes in household utility billing — electricity, gas, and water. We are not affiliated with any utility company, energy provider, or product manufacturer.
How we work
Every guide follows the same process:
- Research. We start from the question a real bill-payer asks — “why did my bill jump?”, “what is a CCF?” — and trace it back to the line items and rates that cause it.
- Explain in plain English. We define every term on first use and link it to our glossary. No jargon survives without a definition.
- Use real ranges. Where costs appear, we use typical U.S. figures and label them as estimates, not guarantees. See our methodology for how we source them.
- Review. Each guide is checked for accuracy, clarity, and completeness before publishing, and revisited to keep figures current.
Our standards
- No sales agenda. We do not sell products, recommend providers for commission, or take referral fees. If we ever reference a service, it is for educational context only.
- Neutral and factual. Content stays objective so it remains useful and compliant with advertising policies.
- Plain-English first. If a sentence requires a utility industry background to understand, we rewrite it.
