Accuracy matters when the topic is your money. If we get something wrong, we want to fix it — fast and visibly.

How to report an error

If you spot an inaccuracy — a wrong figure, a misleading explanation, an outdated rate — please contact us with the guide title and the specific issue. The more detail you provide, the faster we can verify and correct it.

What happens next

1. We review the claim against our sources and methodology.
2. If the content is wrong, we correct it promptly.
3. Where a figure was materially off, we update the “Updated” date so the change is visible.
4. For significant corrections, we note what changed so readers aren’t confused by a silent edit.

Updates vs. corrections

• A correction fixes something that was inaccurate.
• An update refreshes a figure or rate to keep it current (e.g., new average prices). Updates carry an “Updated” timestamp.

2026-08-28 — Heat-pump savings claim, “Heat Pump vs. Furnace”

The guide cited a dead Department of Energy energysaver page for a heat-pump efficiency claim, and quoted the figure as “up to 50%.” The DOE’s live page states heat pumps can reduce electricity use for heating by approximately 65% compared to electric resistance heating. The dead link was replaced with an archived copy (Wayback, 2026-05-05) and the claim was updated to DOE’s live figure. Changed: one cited figure + its source URL.

2026-08-29 — Con Edison time-of-use rates, “What Time Is Electricity Cheapest”

The guide quoted Con Edison summer TOU supply rates as 22.33¢/kWh peak and 44.97¢ off-peak and described the off-peak discount as “50%.” Con Edison’s live rate pages show summer peak supply of 27.86¢/kWh (17.11¢ in other months) and off-peak supply of 5.22¢/kWh — a discount of about 81% in summer, about 70% the rest of the year. All figures, the discount math, and the retrieval dates were corrected against the live pages. Changed: three rates, the discount percentage, and the citation dates.
